dolphins and copy cats

two days ago (friday) we got our campervan and soon after, tom's brother jan reiner, his wife nadine and their son hugo landed coming from their trip on the north island and with two campervans we drove off to the banks peninsula; two wide vulcanoes that rise quite steeply out of the water and now got connected with eachother and the south island. the ground is quite fertile so everything is green. akaroa is the main town.
we stayed in a beautiful doc-campround. doc stands for department of conservation which means all nature and hardly facilities.
on sunday we went out on a boat to see hector's dolphins, they can only be seen in new zealand, and we swam with them too. even in a wetsuit the water was DARN cold, children were not allowed to swim because of that. so while jan reinier, laurian and tom were swimming mette and hugo were spotting them. mette found a stuffed toy dolphin on board that she wanted to set free by trying to throw it in the water.
mette is already well trained. after flipping the light switch in the camper 25 times, laurian said: "no touching" (niet aankomen), mette stopped and said: "only looking" (alleen kijken).
at some stage mette said "mammie opzouten" (mommy, move it)! where did that come from? laurian and tom finally remembered that tom had jokingly said that fifteen minutes earlier.
and to prove that she's a copy cat, we tried the prase "mette is a parrot".
mette: "mette is a parrot".

Wat een verrassing om van mijn oudste neef uit Hong Kong, dit maal een bericht uit Nieuw Zeeland te krijgen! Het klinkt te mooi om waar te zijn allemaal en dat met jullie kleine parrot! En hoe staat het met het broertje van de kleine parrot?
