24 Maart 2009 | Australië, Sydney

the family has arrived in pambula. on the coast 500km south of sydney.
on the way there, the van ran out of gas. since that happened to us last year in perth, that's not a problem because we now have a jerrycan on board and we also know how to not run the engine dry because a dry engine with diesel takes for ages to get back up. so now it's just like another warning system: if the van loses power, let it roll to the side of the road, empty the jerrycan and off to the nearest gas station to fill up both.
for lunch we stopped at ben boyd national park. a 15km wobbly dirt road led us to an idyllic beach in a bay so it was worth the wobbly dirt road. laurian shot pics there.
in the 15km back, we nearly got stuck, which would be the second time during this stay but with hardly any people in 4 wheel drives around. the first time was three weeks before when we drove 100 meters to the beach and on the way back we got stuck in the sand. fortunately there was someone with a 4wd nearby fishing who could pull us out, this time from the front by the towing ring and not by the rear bumper as happened to us at our previous trip in kalgoorlie, western australia which upset the whole bumper.

the campground by the beach in pambula had four kangaroos welcoming the family by the entrance. it almost looked like they were put there, but when we got shown to our site we noticed there were many of them, including joeys drinking while standing in front of their mothers pouch. the guy that brought us to our site first whooshed away a kangaroo who had chosen just that spot to lie in the sun!
and when you wake up in the morning and you see nine kanagaroos within a primeter of 100 meters, you think it's the greatest thing. aussies tell us they think kangaroos are fun for their kids but we think they're cool for the whole family.

mette's quote:
* kijk eens daddy. mette heeft deze gekocht/look daddy, mette bought this one (in the camping store she brings a big yellow bag of m&m's with a big hole she just bit in it and a bit later after daddy re-bought them...)
* jij mag de groenen/you can have the green ones
* zo, mette heeft genoeg/so, mette has enough

    Antoinette:

    Hallo heerlijke vakantie familie!
Wat een feest om met jullie mee te lezen en op afstand te genieten. Hier in Rdam is het grijs en nat en koud en eigenlijk na twee dagen lente weer herfst (net las down under). Die kangaroos lijken me super cool! Groeten van de Schultz.
