we decided to make mette potty trained during our trip. so laurian bought a potty in the shape of a turtle. she understood right away what it was about but only wanted to go on it outside in the sun and completely naked. we were camping in the wild between a field of sheep and the beach, so we thought this was fine.
mette sat on it and sat on it, but nothing happened. she decided to play with the turtle, making him crawl faster than he ever would have in real life and tom quickly put some sunscreen on her, which was good because next thing he knew was that mette ran off to go see the sheep.
this was a whole field (200x300 meters) of sheep and tom put her over the fence. mette ran naked to the sheep who were totally surprised by a naked creature not even as high as they were. tom told mette to wait so he could get the camera but when he got back mette was already 150 meters away in the middle of the field. fortunately laurian had just gotten a telelens which made some great pictures. yes, we'll put them on too, but have to wait for an internet cafe.
the funny thing was that even though she had moved really fast into the field, once she was in the middle, she stood there for ever. tom came to pick her up and when he asked her what was the matter she said "pain" (even in dutch she says "pajn"). there was a thorny plant next to her that made her all afraid. on the way back tom carried her and saw at least 20 more of these plants so it looks like on the way into the field she litterally got carried away.
and potty trained? not yet. keep you posted!

and allard? there's more and more interaction. yesterday tom was bottle feeding allard lying on his back. total peace. but then from the corner of his eye, allard sees laurian walk by and abruptly turns his head with bottle. and when that's not enough for a full view, he stretches his whole body so he can lie on his side in daddy's arms with his back to tom.
to find out whether this was a one off, tom lays him on his back once more and again he turns first his head and then his body. father and son admiring the love of their lives.
